Support The Forum's Zakat and Charity Committee - Pledge/Give Your Zakatul Fitr

Charity in general, and Zakatul-Fitr in particular, is enjoined on all. Most of us have been giving our charity to local mosques and organisations and to others elsewhere through individual arrangements. At the initiative of one of our members, Dr Arabo Ibrahim Bayo, Zakatul-Fitr and other donations of some members were collected and distributed in Nigeria recently.

The first collection was made at the end of the 2004 Ramadhan. A total of £250 was collected and distributed to the survivours of the Yelwan Shendam massacre (Plateau State). The second charity was collected during Eid-el-Kabir of the same year. A total of £100.00 was collected and sent to some of our needy brothers and sisters in Katsina through the former Amir of the Nigeria Muslim Forum, Dr Umar Farouk Aminu. The third collection was carried out during the Ramadhan of 2005 and a total of £300 was collected and distributed to the needy also in Nigeria. The fourth was during the 2006 Ramadhan and a total of £771 was collect and distributed in Nigeria. The sixth wad during the Ramadhan of 2007 and a total of £1,210.50 was collected and distributed in Nigeria. Last year (2008) a total of £2,054 was collected and distributed alhamdu lillah.

Brief reports of some of these efforts are available - can be downloaded from the side menu.

We learned from the experience of the last efforts that we must increase awareness, encourage wider participation and make early arrangements. To this effect, an interest group was formed, under the auspices of the Nigeria Muslim Forum, to organise the collection and distribution of charities and donations to appropriate persons in Nigeria or elsewhere. The Committee, called “The Zakat and Charities Committee”, has as an ultimate aim creating a Trust Fund as a repository for our charities, donations and gifts.

This year, as usual, the Committee is soliciting your support in this effort. For those living in UK, the minimum amount we should give for each family member is currently set at £3.00. Please bear this in mind, the most important aspects are our intention and the need to give as early as possible. For now, to enable timely transfer, your charity could be as a pledge or in cash/cheque to any of the group members or regional representatives – details of this can be found by contacting the Zakat and Charities Committee.

May Allah (SWT) accept this from you and make it as part of your scale of good deeds on the day of Judgement, ameen.
