On the 2nd of June 2015, in a heartfelt response to the crisis in North East Nigeria, the Aberdeen chapter of NMFUK took a decisive step to alleviate the suffering of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Maiduguri. Demonstrating our commitment to immediate and impactful action, the chapter successfully donated N1.5 million worth of grains, benefiting around 300 IDPs. This initiative was part of our strategic IDP assistance program, conceived and executed by the dedicated members of the Aberdeen chapter.

Focused on Immediate Needs

Dr. Abubakar Alkali, the chapter Amir, reflected on the decision-making process, emphasizing the urgent necessity to address the basic physiological needs of the displaced. The decision to provide food was a direct response to the critical situation faced by our brothers and sisters in the region.

Community-Driven Fundraising

Our fundraising target for the IDP fund was £15,000.00. The journey began with each member of the Muslim community in Aberdeen contributing $40. The Aberdeen mosque and Islamic centre (AMiC) extended their support by featuring our appeal on their website, further amplifying our efforts. The generosity of the community was heartwarming, with one mosque attendee donating £1,000.00. Mosque collections, conducted twice with the cooperation of AMiC, played a crucial role in reaching our goal.

Beyond Monetary Aid

In addition to financial assistance, the second phase of the project in 2017 involved the collection and distribution of approximately 130 bags of new and used clothes. These clothes were distributed to the IDPs, providing not just physical comfort but also a message of solidarity and hope.

May Allah accept from us all, ameen.
